AUSTIN, TEXAS JUNE 20, 2007 - Halfway through the year Roger Federer leads the bagel count. Novak Djokovic and Tommy Robredo are close behind.

“Federer has served up 5 bagels (6-0 sets) to his opponents this year,” notes Tom Suhler. "This puts him a little behind his 2006 pace when he delivered 18 bagels in route to winning last year’s Golden Bagel Award™. Novak Djokovic and Tommy Robredo are tied for second with 4 and Rafael Nadal has 3.”

The Golden Bagel Award™ is presented to the men's pro player who hands out more "bagels" (sets won 6-0), than any other player. Federer won it in 2004 and 2006 with 12 and 18 bagels respectively. Nadal won it 2005 with 11.

“Nadal leads the head to head competition with Federer with an 8 / 4 win/loss record,” continued Suhler. “But when it comes to bagels, it’s all Federer. Nadal has never bageled Roger. But Roger has bageled Nadal twice, the most recent time was on clay in the finals of Hamburg, Germany.”

SideSpin Productions has recently released The “The Golden Bagel Award™ Story.” The video includes the inaugural award presentation to Federer, the history of the award, and pokes a little fun at the world number 1’s Wimbledon attire. The three and a half minute video is included as an extra on the “Sharing a Laugh with Marat Safin” DVD which was released earlier this month.

You can also keep up with the current bagel count by visiting the Great Bagel Chase page.
